Today was one of those Camp Cheerio days that just makes your heart smile. We started off strong with pancakes, sausage, and fruit for breakfast. Cabin cleanup followed soon after, and a big shout-out goes to Powhatan, Apache, Cree, Blackfoot, Lakota, and Pawnee for earning the Honor Cabin title with their top-notch tidiness!
Throughout the day, campers rolled through their regular activities, but the real buzz was all about TOJ Day. Decorations went up, red-white-and-blue outfits came out, and energy filled the air. Lunch gave us the tasty boost we needed (chicken tenders and onion rings, anyone?), and soon we were welcoming families and friends to join the celebration. Skits were rehearsed, costumes were put on, and excitement built as the evening program drew near. Martyn and the kitchen crew outdid themselves with an epic cookout—brisket, hush puppies, corn, baked beans, and that unbelievable American flag fruit cake. As the evening settled in, every cabin took their chance, performing heartfelt and hilarious TOJ-themed skits, followed by a beautiful Independence Day tribute from our Senior Counselors. The fireworks that wrapped it all up lit the sky with the same joy we’d been feeling all day.
All in all, it was a day full of laughter, creativity, gratitude, and celebration. TOJ Day reminded us how special it is to be part of something bigger—sharing memories, honoring traditions, and soaking up summer’s best moments together.
